A resurfaced interview featuring Nicole Kidman reflecting on her views on marriage has gained fresh attention amid her recent split from country music star Keith Urban.
The emotional footage appears in the newly released documentary Nicole Kidman: Outback to Oscars, now streaming on Tubi.
Shot in 1992 while Kidman was promoting Far And Away alongside then-husband Tom Cruise, the interview captures the actress expressing her belief that marriage was meant to last a lifetime.
In the clip, New Zealand journalist Paul Holmes asks Kidman about her commitment to lifelong marriage. She responds gently but firmly: “I think if you make that commitment and you say that’s what it’s going to be… then I think that it’s possible.”
The comment has resurfaced at a particularly poignant time for the Oscar-winning actress, who filed for divorce from Urban, 58, in September, citing irreconcilable differences.
The documentary also highlights a vulnerable period in Kidman’s life. Reflecting on her rise to stardom, she described how winning the Best Actress Oscar in 2003 for The Hours brought an unexpected realisation.
“That culminated in winning an Oscar, and that caused an epiphany… I was the loneliest I’d ever been,” she said.
She recalled sitting alone in the Beverly Hills Hotel after her win, feeling an emptiness despite global acclaim.
Kidman’s first marriage to Tom Cruise began with a whirlwind romance. The pair met on the set of Days of Thunder and married on Christmas Eve in 1990. Their relationship, however, ended abruptly in 2001 when Cruise filed for divorce after 12 years, reportedly leaving Kidman “utterly shocked.”
Sources at the time claimed the breakdown was tied to her refusal to join the Church of Scientology, a decision that ultimately impacted her relationship with their two adopted children, Bella, 33, and Connor, 30, both of whom are believed to remain involved with the church.
Kidman later found love with Keith Urban, whom she met at the G’Day LA gala in 2005. The pair married in June 2006 and went on to welcome two daughters, Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14. But their marriage began unraveling earlier this year, with sources revealing a quiet separation had been forming for months due to work pressures and growing distance.
The couple were last publicly seen together in June. In a recent Interview magazine feature—where Kidman interviewed pop star Ariana Grande—she briefly addressed her current emotional state. When Grande asked how she was doing, Kidman replied: “I’m hanging in there.”
