An important jirga was held under the auspices of Barra Political Alliance on Sunday to discuss the issues of the people suffering temporary displacement in Tirah Valley in Khyber district, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Members of the jirga expressed their complete solidarity and support for the displaced families.
They also raised their voice for peace in the region.
They made it clear that corruption and political interference in the distribution of funds totaling Rs4 billion reserved for the affected people would not be tolerated.
Speaking on the occasion, former chairman of Barra Political Alliance Haji Shireen Afridi said that twice the alliance held negotiations with the Khawarij. “But both these jirgas failed to produce the desired results,” he added.
He further said that the issues confronting the people of Tirah were not confined to any particular tribe. “As a matter of fact, all tribes are facing these issues, and any delay in the resolution of these issues is intolerable.”
Afridi said that it was after consultations with the political leadership of district Khyber that it was decided that people would leave their homes temporarily.
He demanded that peace should be restored in the area completely and durable peace in future should be guaranteed.
Other tribal elders said that an honourable return of the displaced families should be ensured and that all promises made with them should be kept.
They demanded that political interference, nepotism, administrative incompetence, and corruption in the registration of the affected families should be investigated and those responsible should be brought to justice.
Furthermore, they said that those owning homes and other properties in Tirah should be given the status of internally displaced people and must be registered.
