The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued a public alert, warning mobile phone and internet users to remain vigilant against cyber scams circulating on the occasion of the New Year.
According to the NCCIA, messages containing so-called “congratulatory links” and offers of “fake gifts” are being widely shared to deceive users. The agency cautioned that such links are often used by cybercriminals to gain unauthorized access to personal data and mobile devices.
In its advisory, the NCCIA strongly urged users not to click on any unknown or suspicious links and to avoid sharing their WhatsApp verification codes or other personal information with anyone. The agency emphasized that links received from unknown numbers can pose serious risks to users’ mobile phones, data, and online security.
The NCCIA stated that these precautionary instructions are part of the government’s broader agenda to promote transparency and protect citizens from digital fraud. The agency also highlighted that it is implementing reforms aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in cybercrime investigations.
Citizens have been advised to stay alert, verify the authenticity of messages before responding, and report suspicious online activity to the relevant authorities to help prevent cybercrime during the festive season.
