A state-of-the-art cricket stadium is set to be constructed in Islamabad after Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to submit the final design within 10 days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
According to the report, the decision was taken during a special meeting held at the CDA headquarters under the chairmanship of the interior minister, where it was also agreed to launch several new projects aimed at improving civic facilities in the federal capital.
The meeting reviewed detailed progress on a wide range of public welfare initiatives. CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa briefed participants on ongoing and proposed projects.
The meeting approved plans for the construction of a modern cricket stadium, allocation of a designated area for a national park, expansion of the Safe City project using advanced technology, and the construction of a smart underpass at Kashmir Chowk to ease traffic congestion. The interior minister also sought the final design of the smart underpass within 10 days.
The meeting further discussed engaging leading companies for the construction of a five-star hotel and reviewed various proposals for allocating land for the headquarters of the Federal Constabulary, Rangers and Islamabad Traffic Police. Proposals for establishing a new convention centre in the capital were also considered.
It was also decided to form a special team to hire the services of a solid waste management company, while officials were directed to submit details of commercial plots that have remained vacant in Islamabad for a long time.
Addressing the meeting, the interior minister said the operation against encroachments in Islamabad would continue with full force, adding that land retrieved during these operations would be utilised in the best public interest.
Inspector General of Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi, along with senior civil, police and CDA officials, attended the meeting.
