Hina Arshad Warraich of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won Sunday’s by-election in the PP-52 constituency in Sambrial, Sialkot, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results obtained from all 185 polling stations of the constituency.
According to 24NewsHD TV, Hina obtained 78,419 votes to defeat Fakhir Nishat Ghumman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who got 40,037 votes. Hina won the by-election amid allegations of widespread vote rigging.
Earlier, polling for by-election in Punjab Assembly’s PP-52 Sialkot-IX constituency began at 9:00am and continued till 5:00pm without any break. Fourteen candidates are vying for the seat which fell vacant after the death of PML-N MPA Chaudhry Arshad Javed Warraich.
Hina Arshad (daughter of Arshad Javed Warraich) from PML-N, Raheel Kamran Cheema from Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), Muhammad Shafaqat from Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), Hassan Toqeer Cheema from Pakistan Nazriyati Party and other independent candidates are contesting by-election in the constituency.
The total number of registered voters in PP-52 Sialkot-IX is 297,185 including 157,725 male and 139,460 female voters where 1696 polling officials are performing their duties.
The total number of polling stations in the constituency is 185, including 11 highly sensitive, 38 sensitive and 136 normal polling stations.
A control room has been set up in the office of Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab to monitor the by-election.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi have congratulated Hina on her victory in the by election. Prime Minister Sharif thanked the people of Sialkot for their support to Hina. Maryam said Hina’s victory reflects people’s confidence in government’s policies.
