Traffic on Motorway M-5 was severely affected after high-transmission power lines fell onto the roadway due to strong winds and storms, prompting authorities to temporarily close sections of the motorway and divert vehicles to alternative routes.
According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police, heavy traffic movement on the motorway between Rohri and Rahim Yar Khan was suspended as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of commuters.
The Motorway Police also stopped the entry of heavy vehicles and public service transport heading north from Rohri and Panno Aqil. Traffic disruptions were reported near kilometre 510 on both the southbound and northbound sections of Motorway M-5, where the fallen power lines blocked the road.
To facilitate travellers, traffic was diverted through alternative routes at Iqbalabad and Guddu. Passengers travelling from Punjab to Sindh have been advised to use the National Highway (N-5) via Rahim Yar Khan from Iqbalabad.
Similarly, travellers heading from Sindh to Punjab have been directed to continue their journey through the National Highway (N-5) and rejoin Motorway M-5 from Rahim Yar Khan.
The spokesperson said rescue and relevant authorities were informed immediately after the incident, and repair teams were dispatched to the affected area to clear the power lines and restore normal traffic flow.
Motorway Police have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel until the situation is fully resolved. Efforts are underway to remove the fallen transmission lines and reopen the motorway to traffic at the earliest opportunity.
