Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has called for an immediate ceasefire in Iran, warning that continued hostilities threaten regional peace and stability, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
Addressing a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, the Pakistani envoy said that an immediate halt to fighting in Iran was essential to prevent further escalation in the Middle East. He stressed that all parties must respect the principles of the United Nations Charter and adhere to international law under all circumstances.
Iftikhar also condemned attacks not only on Iran but on several Gulf countries, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. He specifically denounced reported attacks on Pakistani nationals in the UAE and called for their safety and protection.
Expressing concern over the prevailing situation in the Middle East, the envoy said the attack on Iran had occurred at a time when diplomatic efforts were under way. He appealed to all sides to exercise patience and restraint, noting that such actions undermine peace and security across the entire region.
He also conveyed sorrow over the reported deaths of civilians in Iran, including students, and extended condolences to the affected families, reiterating Pakistan’s position that disputes must be resolved through dialogue and in accordance with international law.
