Three policemen were martyred while two others were injured when the police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel came under attack from the militants in Bannu on Thursday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In retaliation, the police claimed to have killed several militants.
The deceased policemen were identified as Binyamin, Inam and Musawwir, while Wafid Khan and Imran were injured.
It is worth-mentioning here that incidents of terrorism have been on the rise in KP and Balochistan for the last couple of years.
While the Balochistan Liberation Army and other Baloch nationalist outfits carry out acts of terrorism in Balochistan, TTP militants attack police stations and checkpoints almost every other day.
One unidentified assailant was killed while another escaped when a police team they attacked retaliated by firing gunshots at them in Bannu district.
The incident took place in the vicinity of Saddar police station near Kot Adil.
According to Bannu Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajjad Khan, Station House Officer (SHO) Waseem Sajjad and his personnel were on a routine patrol when two unidentified men opened fire at them.
“The policemen fired back at them, killing one of the attackers and injuring the other, who managed to escape from the scene,” he added.
