The federal government has imposed a petroleum levy on high-speed diesel while reducing the levy on petrol, with the revised rates set to take effect from May 1, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division).

Under the new structure, a levy of Rs 28.69 per litre has been introduced on high-speed diesel (HSD), compared to zero levy previously.

At the same time, the levy on petrol has been reduced by Rs 3.88 per litre, bringing it down to Rs 103.50 per litre from the earlier Rs 107.38.

Officials said the revised petroleum levy rates are part of the government’s broader fiscal adjustments in the energy sector.

The changes come alongside recent revisions in fuel prices and are expected to impact transportation and overall cost structures in the economy.

The notification confirms that the updated levy rates will be implemented nationwide from May 1.
