Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic has warned that Karachi residents should get driving licences, otherwise they will be fined Rs 20,000 for not possessing one, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
According to authorities, traffic police officials have prepared a report of the last 24 hours of e-challans and more than 4,000 citizens in Karachi received fines in one day.
The highest number of 2,737 challans were issued for not wearing seat belts.
According to a report, 116 challans issued for speeding, 812 without helmet.
Not less than 169 challans issued for jumping red signal, 157 for using mobile phones, 24 challans were issued for illegal parking, 4 challans were issued for overloading, 23 for violating the stop line, 8 challans were issued for wrong-way driving and 56 for tinted glass.
DIG Traffic said the e-challaning system has been formally activated and the purpose of the system is not to issue challans but to enforce the laws.
No one is exempted from violating traffic laws now, DIG Traffic said.
He said the speed limit of all small and large vehicles is only 60 and overspeeding tickets will be issued for driving more than 60.
