3-phase meters in Lesco region being replaced with AMI meters

The federal government has launched a plan to replace three-phase meters in Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) smart meters, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday. 

The company has decided to approach National Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for an additional budget of billions of rupees to purchase 350,000 meters.

According to sources, additional budget and expenditure will be made if approval is received from NEPRA.

The Ministry of Power Division has ordered all companies including LESCO to install AMI three-phase meters.

A budget of billions of rupees will be required to replace 350,000 meters in LESCO.

The price of AMI smart three-phase meters in the company is fixed at Rs42,000.

A budget of approximately Rs10 billion will be taken for the purchase of AMI smart meters.

The Ministry of Power Division has also sought details from LESCO on taking loans for expenses.
