Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Ishaq Dar, contacted Acting Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi to express condolences over the tragic loss of life and injuries caused by last night’s devastating earthquake in Afghanistan.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Senator Dar offered prayers for the victims and their families, reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Afghan people, and assured Pakistan’s readiness to provide all necessary support as requested by the Afghan authorities.
The 6.0 magnitude earthquake, which struck eastern Afghanistan last night, has claimed over 800 lives and injured around 3,000 people.
Reports indicate that Kunar province has been the hardest hit, with officials warning that the death toll could rise further as several villages have been completely destroyed.
