Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah said on Monday that a ‘super flood’ was expected at Guddu Barrage in the next few days, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, he, however, said that the Sindh government was fully prepared to deal with the challenge.
“The NDMA has informed that eight to 1100,000 cusecs of water will enter the province,” he said, adding, “However, we have done a lot of work on strengthening the barrages since the floods of 2010, and it would be our endeavour that there is no breach of any embankment.”
The chief minister informed that floodwaters would reach the Head Panjnad either on September 4 or September 5. “And from there, it will take two days to reach Guddu,” he elaborated.
However, he went on to say, Sindh PDMA, the departments of irrigation, health and rescue departments were on their toes. “There is a risk of a breach at five to six places in the embankment on the right bank,” CM Murad said, adding the provincial government has sought help from the Pakistan Army and the Pakistan Navy. “The navy has provided us with boats,” he said.
