Five people were killed and several others injured in rain-related incidents as heavy downpours lashed Karachi on Thursday, triggering urban flooding and widespread disruption across Karachi.
The casualties occurred in incidents of electrocution and wall collapse reported from different localities as intermittent heavy showers lashed the city during the morning and afternoon.
Different parts of Sindh and Balochistan received rain, accompanied by strong winds, and hails on Thursday, bringing down temperatures considerably besides leading to floods in several areas, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
There exists a strong weather system in Balochistan due to which most areas of the province received heavy rain as well as hails during the last 24 hours.
During rain and urban flooding, at least five people including a minor girl died in rain related incidents in Karachi. A man died of electric shocks New Karachi, second in PIB colony, one rickshawa driver died in Sarjani. A 12 year Dua Batool died in Sarjani.
The downpours resulted in floods in several parts as well. It rained cats and dogs in Chagai and its suburbs due to which rain drains and streams swelled. Heavy rain was also reported from Dalbandin, Taftan, Saindak and Nokkundi.
The Met Office predicted downpours for Balochistan until April 4.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has imposed rain emergency throughout the province, directing the district administrations to remain alert to the situation as several cities received heavy rain on Thursday.
The CM said protecting public’s lives and properties is the government’s top priority. “Rain camps be set up in various areas of Karachi. KMC, TMCs and Rescue personnel should remain in the field.
Rain in Karachi
It rained in different localities of Karachi, including Defence, Clifton, Saddar, Malir, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Surjani, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Karsaz, National Stadium Karachi, Jinnah International Airport and New Karachi, turning the weather pleasant.
Light rain was also reported from Model Colony, MA Jinnah Road and other areas. On the other hand, the Met Office said that thundershowers would continue to lash the port city until April 4, while some parts of the city could also receive hails. Cool breeze was blowing in the city on Thursday morning at the speed of eight kilometers per hour, while the level of humidity stood at 70 per cent.
The weather department predicted that the maximum temperature in the city would rise to 32 degrees Celius.
The spokesman for the Karachi Electric (K-Electric) said that the power supply to some areas could be suspended due to safety reasons.

Rain pounds interior Sindh
Rain and strong gales were also reported from different cities of interior Sindh.
Rain in Sajawal, Hyderabad, Qambar and Jacobabad turned the weather pleasant.
However, the supply of electricity to different localities in Sajawal and Jacobabad was suspended, affecting people’s businesses.
Farmers in Qambar were in jittery as they feared that the rain would have adverse effects on their crops.
Shikarpur and surrounding areas such as Lakhi Ghulam Shah, Garhi Yasin, Khanpur and others also received light rain.
Similarly, rain was also reported from several parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Kashmir.
Countrywide rains predicted
Meanwhile, the Met Office predicted countrywide rains, accompanied by strong winds, until April 5.
It forecast that torrential rains and hails could lash a few places in southern parts of the country, including Karachi, and north-east Balochistan due to which temperatures would plummet.
