President of Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association Waheed Ahmad has said that 50 percent decrease registered in export of kinnows due to climate change and expiry of variety, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
He said that Pakistan started export of kinoos from December 1, 2024. He further said that during last five years major decline is witnessed in production and export of kinnows which is now stood at 2.5 lakh tons.
Waheed Ahmad said that due to thick smog and fog 35 percent decreased likely in production and export of kinoos during current year.
He said that around 2.5 million tons export target is assigned for kinoos during current year.
He said that due to late arrival of winter season and expansion in summer season also put negative impact on production of kinnows.
Waheed said that if we will not introduce new varieties in current season that kinnows production will definitely decreased in next three years.
He said that among 250 kinoos processing factories half of them already closed due to heavy financial losses.
He said that around 3,00,000 people were unemployed and Rs300 billion investment is at risk at the movement.
