The Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (OIC-COMSTECH), in collaboration with the University of Modern Sciences (UMS), concluded a two-day free medical camp in Chachro, Tharparkar, providing healthcare and humanitarian assistance to thousands of residents in one of Sindh’s most underserved regions.
The camp, held on Feb. 1–2, treated a total of 5,712 patients, with 2,162 people receiving medical care on the first day and 3,550 on the second, reflecting a strong community response to the initiative.
Specialist doctors from multiple disciplines — including ophthalmology, ENT, dermatology, cardiology, gastroenterology, gynaecology, general surgery and general medicine — offered free consultations and treatment.
On-site diagnostic facilities were also provided to enable timely diagnosis and effective care. Two successful deliveries were conducted during the camp, highlighting the urgent need for maternal and child healthcare services in the area.
In addition to medical treatment, organizers distributed mineral water, juices, clothing, shoes and other essential items to patients and attendants, extending relief to vulnerable families.
The initiative was organised by OIC-COMSTECH and UMS in collaboration with Gourmet Foods, the district administration of Tharparkar and the Sindh government’s health department.
It was undertaken under the leadership of COMSTECH Coordinator General Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, who identified Chachro as a priority area for healthcare outreach and health awareness.
At the closing session, COMSTECH officials handed over additional medicines to the medical superintendent of the Civil Hospital in Chachro to support local health facilities and ensure continuity of care after the camp.
Local residents and district officials welcomed the initiative, describing it as an important step toward reducing healthcare disparities in remote areas.
