The Punjab cabinet on Monday approved a supplementary grant of Rs1.50 billion to meet needs of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) so that its capacity to deal with terrorism could be enhanced, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A request had been made for the release of additional funds of over Rs3 billion.
The department needs over Rs1.14 billion for the purchase of anti-drone units and latest equipment; Rs94.9 million for the AI-based software upgradation; Rs350 million for the GPS and monitoring of the people whose names are included in the fourth schedule, and Rs28.4 million for the command-and- control system.
Similarly, Rs660 million are required for the purchase of Converted Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and Rs49.9 million for latest assault weapons.
Police officials have said that the Force will be equipped with latest weapons so that counter-terrorism efforts could be made more effective.
