A prisoner arrested on charges of motorcycle theft has died in Thatta Jail, with his family alleging that he was subjected to torture while in custody.
According to initial details, the deceased, identified as 30-year-old Ali Bakhsh Kocharyo, a resident of Sajawal, was arrested in connection with a motorcycle theft case and later shifted to Thatta Jail. He reportedly died in custody under circumstances the family has termed suspicious.
The heirs allege that Ali Bakhsh was severely tortured after his arrest and again inside the jail, which they claim led to his death. They said the deceased was in good health at the time of arrest and could not have died without custodial abuse.
When the body was handed over to the family and reached their home, scenes of grief were witnessed, with a mournful atmosphere prevailing in the area. Family members said Ali Bakhsh was married and is survived by two sons and four daughters.
The heirs have demanded a transparent investigation into the incident and strict legal action against the officials found responsible. They stressed that accountability was necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Funeral prayers of Ali Bakhsh Kocharyo were offered in his native village of Hussain Kocharyo, where he was laid to rest amid widespread grief.
