Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram on Friday rejected Rana Sanaullah’s remarks regarding a proposed meeting of five elders, terming it his “personal opinion” and asserting that no political deadlock can be resolved without the PTI founder.
In a statement, Sheikh Waqas said Rana Sanaullah was entitled to express his views; however, his comments had effectively acknowledged that the prevailing political situation could not be addressed without involving the PTI founder.
He added that any expectation of talks should come with the understanding that the PTI founder would not engage with what he described as “mandate thieves.”
The PTI spokesperson stressed that any dialogue or reconciliation must focus on the restoration of the Constitution and ensuring complete independence of the judiciary.
He said once constitutional supremacy was restored and the judiciary allowed to function independently, the country’s situation would improve on its own.
Sheikh Waqas further claimed that judicial independence would lead to the immediate release of PTI leaders whom he described as unjustly imprisoned.
He also called for the conduct of independent and transparent elections, stating that such a process was essential for putting the country back on the path to stability and progress.
Referring to the 2024 general elections, the PTI spokesperson reiterated the party’s stance that its electoral mandate had been stolen. He said the party would not remain silent over what it considers the theft of the public mandate.
Sheikh Waqas clarified that reconciliation did not merely mean inviting the PTI founder for talks, but required meaningful steps to address constitutional violations, electoral transparency, and judicial autonomy.
