Heavy rain, lashing Haripur and its adjoining areas since last night, besides flooding main roads, resulted in a deluge in streams and a considerable rise in water level in Tarbela Dam on Wednesday, prompting the district administration to open its spillways, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), on the other hand, expressed the fear of a medium flood in the dam.
The dam administration alerted the deputy commissioners of Haripur, Nowshehra and Swabi.
Heavy rain disrupts routine life in Nowshera
In Nowshera, not far away from Haripur, heavy rain not only inundated low-lying areas, creating a flood-like situation in drains, but at some places, the rainwater even entered people’s homes, leaving the residents to drain out the water on their own.
The rain also led to the suspension of the power supply to the city, creating great inconvenience for the locals.
