With the death of another girl, the death toll in a college van fire incident in Ahmadpur East, near Liaquatpur, reached two on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Nine other female students were injured in the incident, while the condition of several of them was critical till last reports came in.
Ujala, a resident of Abbasia Chak, was under treatment at a Multan hospital’s burn unit.
On the other hand, four people have been nominated in an FIR of the incident registered against the Imperial College administration.
The owner of the college, Rana Aftab, is among those nominated in the case.
It has been alleged in the FIR that an LPG cylinder van was booked deliberately.
Police have said that they have arrested two persons while raids are being conducted to arrest the remaining two suspects.
A college van had caught fire in Ahmadpur on Tuesday after the leakage of gas from an LPG cylinder installed in it.
As many as 19 females, all third-year students at three private colleges of Liaquatpur, were travelling in the van.
When the van reached Chachran village near Ahmadpur East, it suddenly caught fire.
In no time, the blaze engulfed the entire van. And although the locals and firefighters tried to extinguish the blaze, but they did not succeed in their efforts.
One of the students, Tayyaba Abbas, died on the spot, while 10 others were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where after the provision of first aid, five critically wounded students, Maria, Ujala, Sana Kausar, Mishal and Sana Ramzan were first shifted to Bahawalpur’s Victoria Hospital and then to a hospital in Multan.
The father of Sana Ramzan told the media that the college administration had hired the van on rent. “There was a fault in it. The students even pointed this out to the college administration. But it fell on deaf ears.
