Youth commits suicide in Gujranwala after his failure to pay Rs50,000 electricity bill for the release of his father who was behind the bar in power theft case, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel.
The said incident took place in the limits of Aroop police station. According to the victim family, during April 2025, Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) officials booked small house owner Anwar in power theft case and imposed Rs1 lakh fine on him and handed over to police which sent him to jail.
The victim family said youth was working hard to get his father released as GEPCO official demanded Rs50,000 payment and remaining were to be paid in instalment.
The youth tried his best to arrangements the money but failed to do so resultantly dejected youth drink acid and died. The mother of the victim said they were without electricity during the last two and half month. The mother said her son committed suicide after his failure to arrange payment for the bill.
Gepco officials refuted any wrong doing by saying that they registered power theft case on proof and handed over the accused to police.
