Police in Nowshera recovered a seven-kilogram suicide vest during a major operation in the jurisdiction of Akora Khattak police station, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.
According to Station House Officer (SHO) Adil Syed, police and the Bomb Disposal Unit were alerted after receiving information about a suspicious sack in the Shina Wana area, a former Afghan refugee camp.
Acting swiftly, security personnel reached the site and secured the area, he said.
Bomb disposal experts examined the device and successfully rendered the suicide vest safe before taking it into custody.
Following the recovery, police cordoned off the surrounding area and launched a comprehensive search operation to ensure public safety and investigate the source of the explosive device.
SHO Adil Syed said efforts were continuing to identify and trace any individuals who may have facilitated the movement or concealment of the vest.
Police teams are conducting further investigations and intelligence-based operations in the area.
The recovery comes amid ongoing security measures across the district aimed at preventing terrorist activities and safeguarding local communities.
The Nowshera district police reiterated their commitment to implementing a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, stressing that all necessary steps would be taken to eliminate security threats and bring those responsible to justice.
