Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that video-link facilities were available for inmates in jails across the province, adding that emergency response buttons have also been introduced, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Addressing jail reforms conference in Islamabad, CM Maryam said that jail reforms were being implemented based on the hardships she personally witnessed and experienced during her imprisonment.
Maryam Nawaz recalled the hardships she faced during her incarceration alongside her father, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, including inadequate living conditions basic hygiene, sanitation, lack of timely medical assistance, and solitary confinement.
CM Maryam said she was denied permission to meet her ailing mother and was in prison when her mother passed away.
Addressing the same conference, CM Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti said prison reforms remained one of his government's top priorities. He said rehabilitation programs had been launched for inmates struggling with drug addiction, while vocational training initiatives were helping prisoners acquire modern skills. Bugti said the provincial government was constructing new, modern prisons to address overcrowding and had allocated substantial funds for the project.
He added that CCTV cameras were being installed across prisons to enhance security and that the recommendations of the Jail Reforms Committee were being fully implemented.
