Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday directed that the services of firms of international repute be hired for a third-party validation of the reforms introduced in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Chairing a meeting held in Islamabad to discuss the FBR affairs, the prime minister said the government was committed to making Pakistan a stable economy through the introduction of reforms in government departments. “All government departments are toiling hard to eradicate corruption and introduce transparency,” he added.
He claimed that the recent positive indicators are proof that the government’s economic policies were on the right track.
PM Shehbaz, on the occasion, expressed satisfaction over the performance of the faceless customs assessment (FCA) system, and said that the FCA and other such reforms were producing the desired results.
He was briefed that overall, an increase had been registered in receivables following the enforcement of FCA and the duration of customs clearance had reduced considerably as well.
The prime minister was told that reforms were also being introduced in Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited at a brisk pace.
He was also informed that the digital tax return system would soon be enforced to facilitate ordinary taxpayers.
PM Shehbaz was told that work was going at a fast pace on the introduction of the system in Urdu and regional languages.
Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar, Federal Minister for Information Ataullah Tarar, the FBR chairman and other concerned officials were also present at the meeting.
Shehbaz Sharif said the government is determined to achieve success in turning Pakistan into a stable global economy through sustainable institutional reforms following the historic victory in Marka-e-Haq.
He said institutional reforms are rapidly progressing in all sectors. He emphasized that all government institutions are working tirelessly to eliminate corruption and other shortcomings such as lack of transparency from national institutions.
