In a major policy shift, the Education Department has announced a substantial increase in the monthly allowance for school heads, raising it from Rs 500 to up to Rs 10,000, along with new eligibility requirements for the post.
According to official sources, the revised allowance structure will now provide Rs 7,500 per month to heads of primary and middle schools, while heads of high and higher secondary schools will receive Rs 10,000 monthly.
In a move aimed at ensuring merit-based leadership, the department has made it mandatory for all candidates aspiring to become school heads to undergo a test and an interview. Notably, junior teachers will also be eligible to participate in the selection process.
The written test is scheduled to be held in July or August, while interviews will be conducted before the start of the summer vacations.
Education Department officials confirmed that only those teachers who successfully pass the test and interview stages will be considered for appointment as school heads.
