The federal government has decided to tighten the noose around non-filers, proposing to double withholding tax (WHT) on all banking transactions by them, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
According to details, 1.2 percent withholding tax will be imposed on non-filers withdrawing Rs50,000 from banks.
As per the new rates, the government will impose Rs1,200 withholding tax for withdrawing amount worth Rs100,000.
The new rates suggested that 1.2 percent withholding tax will be imposed on all transactions made through ATM and credit card.
Later, banks will transfer this amount to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Currently, non-filers are paying 0.6 percent withholding tax while withdrawing money from banks.
