The Kurdish militant group PKK has declared a ceasefire with Turkey following an appeal from its imprisoned leader Abdullah Öcalan, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Sunday.
According to media reports, the PKK announced that it will refrain from any armed action unless attacked first. The group believes this ceasefire could bring long-term and positive outcomes to end the four-decade-long conflict.
Abdullah Öcalan, who has been in Turkey’s İmralı prison since 1999, continues to hold significant influence over PKK's decisions. The conflict, which started in 1984, has claimed over 40,000 lives so far.
Observers are cautiously optimistic about this development, but whether this ceasefire will lead to lasting peace remains uncertain.
