The cancellation of 120 flights due to a marked drop in the number of passengers following an extraordinary increase in fares in the wake of the US-Iran war has prompted the national as well as international airlines to slash fares by Rs15,000 to Rs20,000 for the passengers travelling within the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Inflation, a direct consequence of the war, had also gripped the aviation industry, which discouraged people from travelling through air.
Sources told the 24News TV channel that 20 incoming and outgoing flights of different airlines at Multan, Faisalabad, Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar and Sialkot airports had to be cancelled.
Similarly, 100 incoming and outgoing flights at Sharjah, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Dubai, Doha and Istanbul were also cancelled.
Sources informed that 27 flights were cancelled at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, while 18 were cancelled at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport; 21 at Islamabad Airport; nine at Multan Airport; 13 at Peshawar airport; four at Sialkot Airport and eight flights were cancelled at Faisalabad Airport.
