At least eight children have died in suspected measles-related cases over the past six weeks in a locality of Rahim Yar Khan, 24NewsHD TV reported on Saturday.
The deaths were reported from Basti Hakim Abdullah, where the victims, aged between two and six years, included several young girls and boys.
Holding the parents responsible, Rahim Yar Khan Chief Executive Officer Health, Dr Babar Ali, alleged that the children’s condition worsened after they sought treatment from a quack instead of certified medical facilities.
“Legal action has been initiated against the individual involved,” he vowed, adding that the failure to seek proper treatment contributed to the fatalities.
Health officials also noted that many children in the area were suffering from malnutrition and low body weight, which may have increased their vulnerability.
He said the district administration and health department are closely monitoring the situation, while mobile healthcare services, including “Clinic on Wheels,” have been deployed to the affected area to provide immediate medical support and contain further spread of the disease.
