The Excise and Taxation Department has proposed a change in the design of number plates for large and luxury vehicles, aiming to improve visibility and enhance road security.
According to department sources, the new number plates will be larger in size to ensure that registration numbers are clearly visible, particularly for SUVs and high-end vehicles.
The move is part of an effort to improve monitoring under Safe City camera systems and assist law enforcement agencies in vehicle identification.
Officials said that the design changes have been sent to the Excise Headquarters for review and final approval.
Once approved, the new plates will be issued for newly registered vehicles, with plans to eventually replace existing plates in a phased manner.
The department stated that the initiative is aimed at curbing vehicle-related crimes, ensuring better compliance with traffic laws, and supporting the integration of advanced surveillance systems.
