Security forces successfully defused a 100-kilogram locally manufactured bomb in the Kalat district of Balochistan on Sunday, reported 24News HD TV channel.
According to Levies' sources, the explosive device was planted under a bridge in Johan tehsil and was intended to destroy the surrounding area.
Swift action by security personnel prevented what officials described as a potential large-scale terrorist attack.
Authorities said the bomb disposal team reached the site immediately after receiving intelligence reports and safely neutralised the explosive device before it could detonate.
An investigation has been launched to identify those behind the attempt.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Saturday, at least five people were killed and two injured during an exchange of fire between rival groups in Kalat.
One of the deceased was identified as Balach Khan, son of Saadullah of the Lango tribe, while the injured included Nasrullah Lango and a passerby, Allah Dad Samalani.
Rescue teams and security forces arrived at the scene to control the situation and shifted the bodies and injured to a nearby hospital.
Authorities are conducting separate investigations into both incidents to ensure peace and stability in the area.
