Wali Weightlifting Club emerged victorious in the Punjab Inter-Club Men’s Weightlifting Championship, claiming the top trophy with 43 points on Sunday.
The two-day event, held at Mahmood Shaheed Weightlifting Club in Satellite Town, Gujranwala, drew participation from 15 certified clubs across Punjab.
According to Pakistan Weightlifting Federation Media Coordinator Sohail Javed Butt, Brothers Weightlifting Club secured the runner-up position with 34 points, while Chaudhry Muhammad Amin Weightlifting Club finished third with 28 points.
The competition featured weightlifters who had previously completed the Anti-Doping Action Awareness Plan course. As per Sinclair Rules, Masab Sethi of Wali Health Club was declared the Best Weightlifter of the Championship.
The event was formally inaugurated by Colonel (retd) Muhammad Asif Dar, former Secretary of the Pakistan Lawn Tennis Federation. Chief Coordinator of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, Hafiz Imran Butt, distributed trophies among the winners.
Prominent guests at the ceremony included Commonwealth Games Birmingham Champion Noah Dastgir Butt, Hanzala Dastgir Butt, Tokyo Olympian Talha Talib, Rashid Nadeem Butt, DSO Faisal Mir, former MPA Mian Masood Hassan, Mazhar Iqbal Randhawa, Organizing Secretary Amjad Maqsood Rathore, Usman Amjad Rathore, and Muhammad Islam Natiq.
In individual events, Hoor Ali of Chaudhry Amin Club won gold in the 60 kg category with a total of 185 kg, followed by Ali Hussain of Mahmood Club (180 kg silver) and Lal Ali of ART Club (157 kg bronze). In the 65 kg class, Masab Sethi of Wali Club lifted 233 kg to claim gold, while Farkhan Javed of Baradriz Gym took silver with 215 kg and Saim Ajmal of Rafiq Club secured bronze with 182 kg.
In the 71 kg category, Muhammad Saud Zia of Subhanullah Club won gold with 245 kg, Samuel Mansha of Mansha Club earned silver with 196 kg, and Shayan of Star Club got bronze. The 79 kg gold went to Aamir Ali of Hajveri Club (252 kg), followed by Abdul Rehman Qadir of Wali Club (242 kg) and Abdul Qadir of Brothers Club (235 kg).
In the 88 kg class, Mudabar Butt of Chaudhry Amin Club secured gold with 235 kg, Iyan of Brothers Gym won silver (220 kg), and Saad Bhatti of Chaudhry Amin Club claimed bronze (202 kg). The 110 kg category saw a nail-biting finish, with Rana Shaban of Brothers Gym lifting 239 kg to win gold, narrowly beating Hamza Khan of Wali Club, who lifted 238 kg. Farid Ali of ART Club took bronze with 211 kg.
In the 110+ kg category, Muhammad Yahya of Wali Club lifted a total of 265 kg to claim gold, while Aurangzeb of Chaudhry Amin Club earned silver with 234 kg, and Muhammad Ali of ART Club settled for bronze with 211 kg.
The championship drew an enthusiastic crowd over both days, with spectators cheering loudly as the athletes showcased their strength and skill on the stage.
