The district administration of Karezat, which is situated near Quetta, on Thursday issued a notice to Afghan shopkeepers in Bostan, Nana Saheb and Khanozai to wind up their businesses and leave for Afghanistan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to Assistant Commissioner Karezat, the Afghan immigrants have been given a deadline of one week to pack up and leave. “Strict action will be taken against those who are found not complying with the instructions,” he added.
Pakistan has intensified the repatriation of Afghan refugees since late 2023, implementing the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Programme, leading to the forced eviction of unregistered individuals and later the expulsion of Proof of Registration cardholders whose cards had expired in mid-2025.
Those who did not comply with the orders to leave were detained.
This has resulted in a significant number of Afghans returning to their homeland.
The process is described as a "forced repatriation," with organizations like the UNHCR expressing concern over the lack of voluntary returns, safety risks, and the human rights situation in Afghanistan, especially for women and girls.
