A police inspector breathed his last when some unidentified assailants opened fire on him at his home due to an old rivalry in Jhelum, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The incident took place in the jurisdiction of the Domali Police Station, Jhelum.
The police inspector who was identified as Raja Zahoor was performing his duty as an investigation officer (UO) in Mangla Police Station.
Soon after the incident, police rushed to the spot and shifted the dead body of the policeman to the hospital for autopsy.
Police established barricades in the entire area and started a search operation to apprehend the culprits.
