A warm reception was given to Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, who had arrived in Lahore on a two-day visit to Pakistan on Saturday, when he arrived at the Prime Minister's House on Sunday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Both the Iranian president and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shook hands with each other. The president was presented guard-of-honour on arrival.
Then the national anthems of both countries were played.
The prime minister introduced the distinguished guest to the members of his cabinet.
The president then planted a sampling at the PM House.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hosted a luncheon in his honour at the PM House.
The lunch was followed by a one-on-one meeting between PM Shehbaz and President Masoud, followed by delegation-level talks between the two countries.
Representatives of both countries inked memorandums of understanding (MoU) at a ceremony.
Besides meeting the PM Shehbaz, Masoud will hold important meetings with Field Marshal Asim Munir and President Asif Ali Zardari.
The Iranian president will also hold a special meeting with his Pakistani counterpart, Asif Ali Zardari.
The latter will host a dinner in honour of the dignitary and members of his delegation.
President Masoud landed at Lahore's Allama Iqbal International Airport on Saturday and from there headed to the mausoleum of Allama Muhammad Iqbal along with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
He laid a floral wreath at the Poet of the East's grave and offered Fatiha. The dignitaries also recorded their impressions in the visitors’ book.
Earlier, he was warmly received at the airport by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz and senior provincial officials.
Upon arrival, children presented bouquets to the Iranian leader, who expressed sympathy and gratitude toward them for their warm welcome. Security in Lahore was tightened in light of the visit, with major roads leading to the Iqbal Mausoleum and government guesthouses under strict surveillance.
