A police officer was martyred while another narrowly escaped in an armed attack by unidentified suspects near Jamali Bridge on the Super Highway in Karachi on Monday.
According to reports, unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on two police officers riding a motorcycle near Jamali Bridge, resulting in the death of a policeman posted at Site A Police Station.
Police said the martyred officer was deployed at Jamali Bridge along with his colleague when the suspects targeted them with indiscriminate firing. The second officer remained safe in the attack.
Following the incident, police and law enforcement officials launched an investigation to trace the attackers and collect evidence from the crime scene.
Inspector General of Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho took notice of the attack and sought a detailed report from DIG East.
He directed that the suspects involved in the attack should be arrested at the earliest and said all available resources, modern technology, intelligence networks and investigative methods should be used for their arrest.
He also ordered enhanced patrol, picketing and snap checking in the area, along with close monitoring of suspicious individuals and vehicles.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar too took notice of the incident and sought an immediate report from SSP East.
He directed police authorities to ensure the arrest of those responsible for the policeman’s martyrdom and bring them to justice. He said modern technology, intelligence information and investigative resources should be fully utilised to identify and apprehend the suspects.
The home minister said the sacrifice of the martyred policeman would not go in vain and that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure the arrest of the attackers.
