As there was no let-up in the ongoing crackdown against the drug mafia, 10 more drug-peddlers were killed and another seriously injured during different police encounters across Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
In Okara, three notorious drug-peddlers were killed during different encounters that took place in different parts of the city during the night.
One personnel of Crime Control Department (CCD) received bullets on his chest and head but remained unhurt as he was wearing a bulletproof helmet and jacket.
The dead drug-sellers were identified as Abdul Ghaffar alias Kali, Faraz alias Shankar and Faiz Mohammad.
The CCD team also recovered more than two kilograms of hashish and three pistols from their possession.
Additional Inspector General of Punjab Sohail Zafar Chatha has been given a deadline of 72 hours to get rid of narcotics smugglers.
District Officer lauded CCD Mehar Mohammad Yousaf for adopting a tolerance policy against drug-dealers.
In Rahim Yar Khan, one drug-seller, Abid alias Chachar, was gunned down during an exchange of fire between the Abadpur Police Station team and the narcotics smugglers.
A spokesman of the police said that a team of Abad Police Station intercepted some suspicious persons who were riding a motorcycle.
The spokesman further said that the armed drug dealers escaped by breaking through a roadblock while firing at police.
During the exchange of fire, one drug-peddler died. Various criminal cases were registered against him.
Police recovered illegal weapons from his possession. DPO Irfan Ali Soomon appreciated the police team for showing outstanding performance.
In Lodhran, one drug-peddler died, and another became injured during an encounter with the Crime Control Department team.
The CCD team arrested the injured drug seller. He was later identified as Mohammad Aslam.
Police also recovered weapons from his and his colleague. Police said that the dead drug-peddler was involved in different criminal cases.
In Lahore, two drug-sellers were killed in police encounters in Batapur and Chung area.
The police encounter took place in the Batapur area of Lahore, where the CCD team of the Cantt area raided a location to arrest the dacoits who were riding on a motorcycle and were looting people.
After noticing the police team, they started firing. During the exchange of fire, one dacoit, Fayyaz died and his other companion escaped.
The police constituted a team to apprehend the accused accomplices.
In another police encounter, an under-custody accused Zahid Iqbal was killed. Police said that they were taking the accused Zahid Iqbal to the Chung area of Lahore for recovery.
On their way, some accomplices of the accused started firing on the CCD team in a bid to free him from custody.
During the exchange of fire, Zahid was hit by bullets and died. Police said that the dead accused was involved in various criminal including drug-selling cases.
In Sahiwal, three drug-sellers were killed during a crackdown against drug-dealers. A CCD team raided a location in Chak No. 72/4 and shot dead three drug-peddlers, while there three accomplices escaped from the scene.
Police said that six accused were riding on two motorcycles. After taking notice of the police, they started firing.
During the exchange of fire, three drug peddlers were killed, and three escaped from the scene.
