Lahore once again ranked as the most polluted city in the world on Tuesday as its overall Air Quality Index (AQI) climbed to a hazardous 198, 24NewsHD TV reported.
Despite a series of government measures, including the operation of anti-smog guns, mechanical washing and water sprinkling by the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), and a crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles by the transport department, the smog situation showed no significant improvement.
According to air quality monitoring data, Mushtaq Ahmed Gurmani Road and its adjoining areas recorded the city’s highest pollution level with an alarming AQI of 294.
DHA Phase VIII followed with an AQI of 233, while DHA Phase V logged 201.
Other heavily affected areas included Tufail Road in Cantt (189), Shalimar (181), Askari X (164), and Samanabad (155).
Health experts have urged citizens to take precautionary measures, including limiting outdoor activities and wearing protective masks, warning that prolonged exposure to such toxic air can lead to serious respiratory and cardiovascular complications.
