On the very first day of the implementation of the new fine rates, the traffic police have collected a record revenue by issuing challans worth Rs131.9 million in Punjab, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
According to statistics, 40,636 challans were issued for violating traffic rules across Punjab, including Lahore.
As many as 15,428 people were locked up in police stations for violations of traffic rules, while 4,388 cases were registered.
After the amendments in traffic rules, 44,713 challans have been issued so far, with a fine of Rs495.2 million, while 63,000 vehicles have been impounded in police stations.
According to traffic authorities, the software in the system has been updated from the previous day to increase fines.
Registration of cases against minors has been stopped across Punjab.
These fines do not include data from e-challans issued by Safe Cities.
