PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan Tuesday spoke to the media outside Adiala Jail, sharing details of a family meeting with Bushra Bibi and expressing concern over the health of the party’s founder.
Barrister Gohar said that after a gap of three months, Bushra Bibi’s family was finally allowed to meet her. However, the meeting was limited to Bushra Bibi alone, and the family was not permitted to meet Imran Khan. “Bushra Bibi’s family met only her and not the PTI founder,” he said.
According to Barrister Gohar, Bushra Bibi conveyed two messages during the meeting.
She informed that Khan was suffering from severe pain in one eye and that doctors had advised treatment at PIMS Hospital. “Bushra Bibi said that the condition is still not good, though there has been some improvement,” he added.
He said Bushra Bibi also confirmed that the PTI founder had been taken to the hospital and that doctors at PIMS had recommended a medical procedure, warning that failure to do so could result in the loss of eyesight.
The treatment, he said, is still ongoing.
Barrister Gohar noted that the founder had also sent a message to the party and legal team, which would be conveyed internally. He clarified that no political discussion took place during the family meeting. “There was no discussion on February 8 or any political matters. The meeting was purely a family one,” he said.
Criticising restrictions on jail meetings, the PTI chairman said family meetings should be held under all circumstances.
“Today, the family got some relief. There should be no politics around such meetings,” he remarked, adding that stopping meetings would only create more problems.
He rejected claims that political discussion was prohibited, questioning the double standards.
“Where is it written that you cannot talk about politics? Were there no leaders in jail before?” he asked, alleging that one law was being applied to one party and another to others.
Barrister Gohar reiterated PTI’s stance against terrorism, saying the party continued to condemn militancy and called for unity.
“Whether it is Tirah, Bajaur, KP, Punjab or Balochistan, we say take action against terrorists under the National Action Plan,” he said.
Referring to recent political contacts, he said the KP chief minister’s meeting with the prime minister focused on provincial issues, terrorism and outstanding arrears. He added that the party was unaware of any offer coming from Turkey.
The PTI chairman stressed that the founder had previously said that living and dying was in this country and urged party leaders not to take his health lightly.
“This is a difficult time for the country, and political problems should be solved politically,” he said.
He also revealed that Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas had been authorised by the founder to move discussions forward.
Achakzai, he said, had written a letter to the prime minister and proposed the names of three doctors. “God willing, these discussions will now move forward,” he added.
Concluding his remarks, Barrister Gohar said that while today’s meeting brought some comfort, the issue remained unresolved. “If Khan Sahib had also been allowed to meet, the matter would have ended. Still, it is better to have something than nothing,” he said.
