Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) of Lahore Faisal Kamran said that motorcyclists without safety rods will have to pay Rs2,000 as a fine and their bikes will also be impounded, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Talking with the media in Lahore, DIG Faisal Kamran said that “Safety and protection of the general public is the top priority of the Punjab government. He further said that anyone who will not implement SOPs will be dealt with iron hands.”
Earlier, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Lahore Athar Waheed has said that more than 7 lakh safety rods had been installed on motorcycles for Basant, and the traffic police are arranging for another 3 lakh rods.
Talking to the media, Dr Waheed said that special teams will be deployed on the inner routes of the city during Basant, and motorcycles without safety rods will not be allowed to enter the city during Basant.
He said that under the “Safe Basant” initiative, free safety wires and rods are being installed on motorcycles through 100 safety camps across the city, including Town Hall.
He said that the traffic police’s target is to install 100 percent safety rods in the city. More than 3,000 traffic police officers and personnel will be on duty during Basant.
Furthermore, district administration says the ‘Safe Basant’ campaign aimed at ensuring public safety by installing safety rods on motorcycles is in full swing in the provincial capital.
