Monkeypox case confirmed in South Punjab

A new case of monkeypox has been reported in South Punjab, with the infection confirmed in a patient undergoing treatment at Nishtar Hospital, Multan.

According to hospital sources, the affected patient has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is stated to be in critical condition. The patient is a 20-year-old resident of Muzaffargarh.

Hospital officials confirmed that the patient has also tested positive for HIV/AIDS. This is the second case of monkeypox reported at Nishtar Hospital in 2026, a spokesperson for the hospital said.

Following the confirmation, the Nishtar administration has further tightened isolation protocols and safety measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Health authorities said all standard operating procedures are being strictly implemented, and contact tracing is underway.
