Inamur Rahim, father of Sarah Inam, who was murdered by her husband Shahnawaz Amir in Islamabad over a year ago, on Tuesday moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against the acquittal of the convict’s mother Sameena Shah in the case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In the petition, Inam prayed to the court to declare Islamabad’s District and Sessions court’s decision to acquit Sameena null and void, and to award maximum punishment to her.
The district and sessions court, while pronouncing a reserved verdict on December 14, 2023, had awarded death sentence to Shahnawaz Amir, the son of journalist Ayaz Amir, in the murder case of his wife Sarah Inam.
The court had reserved its verdict on December 9 after hearing all the parties. The case went on for little over a year.
Co-suspect Samina, Shahnawaz’s mother, was, however, declared not guilty.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs1 million on the convict.
Speaking to the media outside the court after the decision, Sarah's father said when his daughter was killed, there were only three people inside the house.
Inam said it was a lie that Shahnawaz’s mother does not know anything.
He demanded that Sameena should be punished too.
Shahnawaz had brutally murdered his Canadian-Pakistani wife Sara at their Chak Shahzad farmhouse in Islamabad on November 23, 2022.
