Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has submitted to the International Cricket Council (ICC) list of the preliminary national squad for the T20 World Cup, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
The announcement of the final squad will be made after the conclusion of the Pakistan and Sri Lanka cricket series this month.
The squad can be changed till January 31, 2026. After this, approval of the ICC Technical Committee is mandatory for changes in the final squad.
Sources said that the inclusion of fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi in the final squad is linked to his injury.
In case of Shaheen Shah’s unavailability, Waseem Junior will be included in the final squad.
Other players included Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Salman Ali Agha, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz, Salman Mirza, Abrar Ahmad, and Usman Tariq. Cricketer Mohammad Rizwan is not part of the squad yet.
For the wicketkeeper, a contest is being witnessed between Khawaja Nafay and Usman Khan. In case Abdul Samad showed outstanding performance in Sri Lanka, then he will be included in the squad for the T20 World Cup.
Sufyan Muqeem and Hassan Nawaz are being considered as backup players.
