The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced the issuance of licenses to cable operators, enabling them to offer internet services to their customers, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.
PTA Chairman Major Gen (r) Hafeez Ur Rehman informed Khalid Arain, Chairman of the Cable Operators Association, about the decision during a telephonic conversation, confirming that the authority has fulfilled its earlier promise to the association.
Chairman Arain expressed gratitude to the PTA and said that cable operators will now be able to provide internet facilities after obtaining the license.
He added that providing this additional service will also help create sustainable employment opportunities for operators.
Application Process and Terms
Interested applicants can submit their requests through the PTA portal.
Operators who already hold a cable license from PEMRA will be given priority.
The authority stated that the licenses, issued as class licenses, will be valid for ten years, and applicants will be required to pay a one-time initial fee of Rs 300,000.
This decision is part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to expand internet access across Pakistan and provide cable operators with opportunities to diversify their services.
