The Islamabad High Court has acquitted and ordered the release of four Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers previously convicted in the May 9 Ramna police station attack case.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the decision comes as a significant relief to the party, which has consistently denounced the trials as politically motivated.
A division bench comprising Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro and Justice Azam Khan heard the appeals filed against the convictions issued by an anti-terrorism court (ATC).
The ATC had earlier sentenced the four workers in connection with charges related to arson and violent rioting outside the Ramna police station in the aftermath of the PTI chairman’s arrest on May 9, 2023.
During the hearing, PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, was present in court. She met with the workers and other party supporters, expressing strong solidarity with those accused in the May 9 incidents.
Addressing the acquitted workers, Aleema Khan said, “Our workers are being subjected to injustice, but the party stands firmly by your side. Our legal team is doing an excellent job and will continue to fight for your rights.”
The party has repeatedly maintained that its members were being unfairly targeted and tried under harsh legal frameworks.
