A high-level government delegation led by Barrister Dr. Muhammad Ali Saif reached Swat to offer condolences to the family of Assistant Commissioner Faisal Ismail, who was martyred in the recent terror attack in Bajaur, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Thursday.
The delegation visited the residence of the slain officer in Odigram, Swat, where they offered Fateha and conveyed a special condolence message from the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
While speaking to the media, Barrister Saif paid tribute to Faisal Ismail’s sacrifice, declaring him a national hero whose services and bravery will never be forgotten.
“Assistant Commissioner Faisal Ismail sacrificed his life for the country. The entire nation stands proud of his courage and dedication,” he stated. He vowed that the perpetrators behind the attack would be brought to justice, labelling them as enemies of the country and the nation.
Addressing public concerns about the lack of timely rescue during the tragedy in Swat, Barrister Saif clarified that the government took the incident seriously and initiated swift and regular action in response to the loss of lives and shortcomings in relief operations.
He confirmed that several officers had already been suspended and that the Chief Secretary was overseeing the inquiry. “Once the findings are in, those found responsible will face strict action,” he assured.
Responding to criticism over the unavailability of rescue helicopters during the flood incident in Swat, Barrister Saif explained that the helicopter used by the delegation was a small, non-rescue aircraft.
“This is not a rescue helicopter,” he emphasised. “Specialised rescue helicopters are equipped with lifesaving equipment and are designed for difficult operations. The aircraft we travelled in was not capable of conducting rescue operations, especially in bad weather.”
He acknowledged public frustration but urged patience as the government completes its investigation. “We understand the pain and the questions, but rest assured, justice will be done. The sacrifice of Faisal Ismail will not go in vain,” he said.
