Wrestling legend and Pakistan’s first international gold medalist, Deen Muhammad, has passed away at the age of 100. His son confirmed the news of his death. The funeral prayer will be offered tonight at 9 PM in Batapur.
Deen Muhammad made history by winning Pakistan's first-ever gold medal at the Asian Games in 1955, marking a monumental achievement for the country in the field of international sports. His victory not only brought prestige to the nation but also gave Pakistan a distinct identity in the global wrestling arena.
Tributes poured in from across the country following the news of his demise. Punjab’s Minister for Sports, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, expressed deep sorrow, calling Deen Muhammad a national hero whose services to the country are unforgettable. “Wrestler Deen Muhammad raised the Pakistani flag high in the world of wrestling. National heroes like him are the pride of our nation,” said the provincial minister.
Director General Sports Punjab, Khizr Afzal Chaudhry, also offered heartfelt condolences, recalling Deen Muhammad as a legendary figure whose contributions to Pakistani sports will always be remembered. “He brought glory to the country and will forever be honored in our history,” he stated.
Presidents of the Punjab Wrestling Association, Lahore Wrestling Association, and other sports officials also mourned his passing and offered their prayers for the departed soul and his bereaved family.
Born in 1924, Deen Muhammad had celebrated his 100th birthday in February this year. His remarkable journey from the wrestling pit to the top of the podium remains an inspiring chapter in Pakistan’s sporting legacy.
