Indian actor Arshad Warsi has sparked widespread discussion after sharing his views on different styles of comedy, saying he is not a fan of Pakistani humor because he finds much of it "derogatory" and "insulting."
During a recent interview, Arshad spoke candidly about his personal preferences when it comes to comedy.
He said he does not enjoy humor that relies on personal insults or offensive remarks to make people laugh. The actor also shared that he is not a fan of sexual or double-meaning comedies, adding that while many people enjoy such content, it is simply not his preference.
Explaining his opinion, Arshad said that, based on what he has seen, much of the Pakistani humor he has come across relies on name-calling, personal jabs and insulting remarks. He added that he prefers comedy that entertains audiences without depending on putting others down.
Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, who was part of the conversation, offered a different perspective. He said comedy has long included jokes based on regional and cultural stereotypes, mentioning examples of jokes about different communities in India.
According to Hirani, if every form of humor is heavily censored, comedians could be left with very little material to work with.
While acknowledging Hirani's viewpoint, Arshad maintained his personal preference but also said audiences should avoid becoming overly sensitive. He concluded the discussion by saying that people should "lighten up," suggesting that comedy should still be viewed in the spirit of entertainment.
The interview quickly gained attention on social media, with Arshad's remarks sparking debate among users in both Pakistan and India.
